A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a hexagonal shield blazoned: Per chevron reversed rayonn Or and Gules, a dragon rampant resting its sinister hind claw on a bayonet fesswise Azure (Cobalt Blue). Attached around the base of the shield, a Dark Blue scroll inscribed "THROUGH THE FLAMES" in Gold letters with Red flames on either side emitting from the ends of the scrolls.
Cobalt blue and golden yellow are the colors traditionally used by the Chemical Corps. The dragon is a fire-breathing, mystical beast of strength and power. Standing among the flames, it symbolizes the fire and destruction of chemical warfare. The flames also underscore the organization's motto. The bayonet, a symbol of the Infantry, represents the unit's Infantry heritage. The hexagonal shield alludes to a benzene ring and is adapted from the branch insignia.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 Apr 2000.
